7 Questions to Ask Our Dental Implant Dentist

Grand Rapids, MI Dental Implants Dentist

As a dental implant dentist, Dr. Suk Jun Yun is dedicated to restoring the oral health of his patients.

While not everyone is a candidate for dental implants, Dr. Yun will take great care to determine the best option for replacing teeth and restoring your smile.

Here are some of the most common questions we get from patients who are interested in the dental implant procedure.

If you don’t see your question listed below, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office so you can request a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Yun.

1.) How do you determine if I’m a candidate for dental implants?

The ideal candidate for the dental implant procedure is a non-smoker, has healthy gums, and has sufficient density in their jawbone for us to place the implant.

If you have recently lost a tooth, schedule an appointment with our dental implant dentist in Grand Rapids, MI. Even if you don’t have sufficient jawbone tissue to support a full-sized tooth implant, you may still be a candidate for mini dental implants.

2.) What is the dental implant process?

Once we’ve determined you’re a candidate for dental implants, we’ll schedule an appointment to place the implant in your jaw and a temporary crown overtop.

Over the next several months after the initial procedure, the tooth implant will fuse to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. During this time, we’ll monitor your condition to ensure the implantation is successful. Once you’ve completely healed, we’ll place the permanent crown over your tooth implant.

3.) Will I be sedated during the dental implant procedure?

Yes, our dentist will use IV sedation or oral sedation so you’re comfortable during the dental implant procedure. We understand that patients may feel anxiety about getting dental implants, which is why we do everything we can to make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed in the dentist’s chair.

4.) Why should I choose a dentist that specializes in dental implants?

Unlike other dentists, Dr. Yun uses minimal incisions to decrease your recovery period and risk of infection. Instead of having to cut the gums down to the bone, he uses 3D scans to check nerve position and the condition of your jawbone. A surgical guide will have also been created ahead of time so Dr. Yun can precisely place implants without you needing sutures later.

Since our dentist specializes in dental implants, you can feel peace of mind that you’re receiving excellent care.

5.) How long do dental implants last?

The lifespan of your dental implants depends on many factors, such as how often you brush your teeth, smoke, grind your teeth, chew ice, eat hard foods, or use your teeth as tools. The better your oral hygiene habits, the longer your tooth implant is likely to last.

Continue seeing our dentist every 6 months for your routine teeth cleaning and oral examination. That way, we’ll be able to monitor the condition of your dental implants and overall oral health.

6.) How many dental implants can I have?

We offer a full range of options for our patients that include single tooth implants, implant-supported dentures, and all-on-6 dental implants. Whether you need to replace one tooth or several, you can trust us to find the right solution for your smile.

7.) What maintenance do dental implants require?

Continue brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once daily. You’ll also need to schedule a teeth cleaning and oral examination with us at least every 6 months so we can monitor your oral health and the condition of your dental implants. We closely monitor the condition of your dental implants so they last for years to come.
